LBESA 200/400 COMPETITION, JAN 09

Edmonton Phoenix SC enjoyed a very successful Borough 200/400 competition taking nearly half of the 88 gold medals on offer.

Leading the way was “Gold Medal Machine” Sarah Browne, who along with Zach Kirlew and Ben Zuccolini were the leading gold medal winners, each of them winning 5 gold medals each.  Close behind were Charlotte Newman and Josh Kirlew with 4 gold medals each.  Josh had a tremendous 200m Backstroke, his time of 3:07:44s in the 9 year olds race, comfortably beat the best 10 year olds time and was the second fastest time compared to the 11year olds.

The other medal winners are as follows.  Afton Doe, Emma Tunstall, Nina McGarvey, Megan Holder, Rachel Harris, Charlotte Payne, Connie Hawkes, Mia Hawkes, Hannah Thomas, Louis Kirlew, Ben Howe, Michael Tunstall and Tom Newman.

This was also a special event for many of our younger swimmers who were either competing for the first time or had never competed over the longer distances.  Callum McCabe had some excellent swims and James Whiting showed how much he has improved and he is starting to look a seriously quick swimmer.

A special mention must got to Amy Halihan who, having made an early mistake in the 400m Individual Medley, kept herself together to produce a tremendous display of multistroke swimming.  Her courage and determination at such a young age shows that she will make an awesome swimmer in the years to come.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed in an excellent gala and we look forward to a successful year ahead

WELL DONE EDMONTON PHOENIX!
