Middlesex Age Groups –

8/9 and 15/16 March 08

 

Sean Leahy won double Gold in the 400 and 200IM over the final two weekends of the Middlesex Age Groups at Southbury Road,

Sean qualified for the Nationals with this 400IM time and also reached the final in his 100 freestyle and picked up a bronze in the 200 free.

Charlotte Payne got double gold in the 100 and 200 Backstroke whilst Zach Kirlew picked up a gold medal in the 400m Freestyle, silvers in the 200m and 100m and a bronze in the 100 IM.

Matthew Barnes won a gold medal in the 200m and silver in the 100m Breaststroke and Charlotte Newman picked up a silver medal in the 100 Back and got into the final of the 100IM.

Other bronze medallists were Michael Tunstall, Heather Stephenson, Ben Howe and Emma Tunstall and finalists included Ben Zuccolini, Alice Smyth and Sarah Browne.

There were other great performances and some good personal bests from Nina McGarvey, Tom Newman, Hannah Thomas and Mia Hawkes.

 

 

 

Edmonton picked up 8 bagcat/stroke awards – the best result of the Enfield clubs.  Well done to Zach Kirlew who picked up a Bagcat award and to Emma Tunstall, Charlotte Payne, Heather Stephenson, Sean Leahy, Matthew Barnes, Ben Zuccolini and Louis Kirlew who all picked up stroke awards.

 

LBESA 50/100 Borough Championships – 29/30 Mar 08

 

Edmonton Phoenix picked up the largest haul of gold medals at the LBESA Borough Championships.

70 golds – Edmonton Phoenix

40 golds – Griffins

28 golds – Enfield

3   golds – Broomfield Park.

This was an improvement on last year – when we got 66 golds!

Connie Hawkes – junior squad and Reece Ballett and Louis Kirlew – senior squad.

 

London Regions – 3/4 May 08

 

Charlotte Payne, Louis Kirlew and Sean Leahy all reached the finals at the London Region Age Groups held at Gurnell, Ealing due to the closure of Crystal Palace.

Sean picked up two silver medals in the 200 IM and the 200 Free and picked up a course record in the 400 IM. Charlotte picked up a bronze in the 50m back.

 

Enfield Open Meet – 17/18 May 08

 

Some very strong clubs participated in this Open meet and there were some great performances from out club – too numerous to mention.  The club had five swimmers in the Skins finals – Nina NcGarvey, Emma Tunstall, Charlotte Payne, Zach Kirlew and Michael Tunstall.  Best performances went to Zach and Michael in the under 14 skins who came second and third respectively.

Well done to all our swimmers and a mention must go to Sam Fagg and Rikki James who both did really well in the 50 Freestyle knocking loads off their previous best times.

 

Meanwhile, our national swimmer Sean Leahy was swimming at Hatfield over this weekend picking up yet another national time in the 200 freestyle and breaking another club record!

Broomfield Park – Altenberge Trophy - 10 May 2008

 

Victory for Edmonton Phoenix when they won this cup beating the previous winners Westminster and other teams Bethnal Green, Ruislip, Anaconda and Broomfield.

The best performance award has to go to the two parents relay teams who both got maximum points – they were Fabio Monteforte, Rob Howe, Colin Hawkes, Gary Fagg  and Linda Newman, Jan Ballett, Sue Thomas and Julie Zuccolini.

 

London Region Bagcats – 7/8 June and 14/15 June

 

Well done to Nina McGarvey, Michael Tunstall and Charlotte Newman who attended the London Region Bagcats at Ealing over two weekends.

Best performance has to go to Charlotte Newman who got a gold medal in the 100m Backstroke and nearly achieved a national time in the process.  This is a great achievement as she beat all swimmers from all over the London area.

 

Edmonton Phoenix Junior Open – Licensed Meet – 21 June 08

 

 

Edmonton Phoenix ran their first Level 3 - Licensed meet in June 08.  The equipment all worked perfectly – no faulty printers and no hold ups!  Medals were awarded up to 6th place.

Middlesex Long Course – 28/29 June 08

 

Some good results from this Middlesex competition at Ealing in a 50m pool.

 

Charlotte Payne – Gold – 50 Fly, 200 Back, 50 Back. Silver - 100 Back.

Sean Leahy – Gold – 1500 Free, 400 Free, Silver – 400 IM, 200 IM,

Emma Tunstall – Gold – 200 IM, Bronze – 100 Fly.

Nina McGarvey – Gold -1500 Freestyle.

Alice Smyth – Gold – 50 Breaststroke

Alice Monteforte – Bronze – 50 Breaststroke.

Emma Tunstall and Sean Leahy reached the skins final based on their 200IM results and came 3rd and 5th respectively.

Early morning sessions will close for a month from the beginning of August.

Tuesday early session will close for last 2 weeks in August.  (Barry is away)

 

Junior Squad

 

Sunday morning sessions to move to Southbury from 20 July 08 – 31 August 08 inclusive.

Thursday session (invitation only) will move from 6-7 pm to 8-9 pm from 24 July.

 

Lateness to squad sessions

 

All swimmers are required to be on poolside in good time.  This means being ready to enter the pool at the start of each session.  Swimmers late for sessions will be expected to explain the reason why to the Coach. 

Where swimmers are over 15 minutes late the Coach running the session may, at his/her discretion refuse entry to the pool.
